online video: reach and benefits

brands_bA recent webinar conducted by Forrester and Omniture focused on the benefits of online video. Dr. James McQuivey, VP and Lead Analyst at Forrester, communicated why and how online video attracts and engages.

According to McQuivey, a minute of video is worth 1.8 million words.  Considering that 61% of American households have a broadband connection, the possibility of distributing and watching online videos now exists.  In addition, there are 117 million online video watchers in the US who on average watch 56 minutes of online video per week.

The research and evidence are conclusive.  Online video provides a website with a TV-esque experience and exposes the opportunity to attract, interest, and sell consumers.

ready…set…go video!

newbalance_thumb

Doug Mack, the VP and GM of Consumer and Hosted Solutions at Adobe Systems, recently blogged about the emergence of video in eCommerce.  “Through my Scene7 imaging experience, I’ve learned the old adage ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ rings very true in eCommerce. So what is a moving picture (a.k.a. video) worth?” said Mack.

With nearly 117 million online video viewers in the US alone, the audience for video is real and ready.  Consumers want an interactive experience with products for enhanced knowledge and entertainment.  Whether it be about a Doyle surfboard or a pair of New Balance running shoes, product videos engage and increase sales for online retailers.

listen up retailers: video sells

shopping-bags1Yet another article by eMarketer has highlighted the importance of video for online retailers in 2009.  Jeffrey Grau, an eMarketer senior analyst, expanded on the advantages of using video saying “Among the benefits of videos touted by Web retailers are a lower number of abandoned shopping carts, reduced return rates and higher sales.”

While wallets are tightening, retailers are not relinquishing the goal of video acquisition.  Instead, they are staying competitive by making it priority number one.

Luckily, Invodo provides product videos to retailers for FREE!

eMarketer: video and reviews to up online sales

conumerreviews

Based on a study conducted by Vovici, eMarketer found that online retailers were looking to add consumer reviews and video to their sites in 2009. The reason: to increase online sales. PetsUnited, the owner of 10 e-commerce sites, saw a 50% jump in average sales when shoppers made a purchase after viewing a video.

“Shoppers that view videos and read customer ratings and reviews spend more,” said Corbin de Rubertis, president of retail widget developer Qponix.

In hard economic times, online retailers are finding ways to increase their sales through less traditional marketing tactics. By including product videos on their sites, retailers are enticing the consumer and driving up customer purchases.

retailers look to online video in 2009

emoney

Seriously … we’re not making this up.

A new survey from Internet Retailer stated that search engine optimization (SEO) and online video were the two top priorities for online retailers in 2009.  According to the survey, 43.3% of merchants will update their e-commerce sites with video this year.  One reason is that fact that online shoppers who viewed video had a larger shopping ticket than those who viewed traditional rich media.

The possibility of increasing online sales through the use of video is extremely excting to online retailers.  Not only does video interest the consumer, but it allows them to make a more educated purchase decision.
