Butch Harmon - Golf Grips in Bad Weather

Butch Harmon - Golf Grips in Bad Weather: One of the great things about Winn grips is they’re great in all kinds of weather. Most people talk about grips not functioning well when it’s wet. High humidity or rain, that’s when our grips are the best. They get tackier. The wetter they get, the more tacky the grip gets, the easier it is for you to hold on to the club. So Winn grips have not only a performance and feel, in bad weather, they’re even better.

Butch Harmon - Golf Stories

Butch Harmon - Golf Stories: You know, one of the great things about my job is I’ve had the opportunity to teach the greatest players in the world, and one of the things that stands out the most was in the year 2000. Tiger Woods was here in Las Vegas at our golf facility where we are right now and it was the weekend before the US Open at Pebble Beach. He went out to play with a young Adam Scott who had just turned professional. The wind was blowing about 30 miles an hour, and Tiger Woods set the course record. He shot 64 with a one stroke penalty, went on the next week to win the US Open by 15 shots. But I think the thing I remember the most about it was Adam Scott coming in from playing, Adam Scott was a good young player, and Adam says, Boy, I’ve got a lot of work to do if I think I can beat this guy. And now we look today, fast forward seven years, eight years, and Adam Scott is now the number six player in the world. And it’s funny how you see young players progress, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget that round because Tiger played so good and made it look so easy and we all ran down to the casino and bet on him the next week for the US Open, and he wins by 15. Not bad.

Butch Harmon - Individual Grip Preference

Butch Harmon - Individual Grip Preference: One of the interesting things about Winn grips is that we offer you three different types. We have a firm grip, we have a medium grip and we have a soft grip. I think it’s an individual thing. Myself I prefer the softer grip because I have arthritis in my fingers and the softer grip gives me a little more shock absorption than, say, the firmer grip. A lot of your good players like the firmer feel, it’s not only firm but it’s a nice tacky feel. And then you have the one in the middle that I think the average player chooses a lot because that’s what they’re used to using. The beauty is that you don’t have to use the middle one if you don’t want. You can use the soft, you can use the firm. We find good players like the firm, I think the higher handicaps or anyone that has any injuries or stuff in their hands, or some tendon problems, likes the soft. I happen to like the soft one because it gives me a little bitter shock absorption. But all three of them are perfect.

Butch Harmon - Use Your Fingers

Butch Harmon - Use Your Fingers: You know it’s interesting because the average person doesn’t think about it, but the only contact I have with this golf club is with this grip, or with my hands. It’s important to get your hands on there properly. What we see all the time is that most people grip the club too much in their palm, in other words they get the club too much down in their palm and they tend to lose the grip. So if you can get the grip a little bit more in your fingers, have a pressure on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the lightest, 10 being the tightest, somewhere in the six or seven range, you’re gonna have not only a good hold of the golf club, but you’re gonna be able to feel your hands and use your hands during the swing. The average player never thinks about where their hands go on the shaft. They’re always thinking about a new driver they can buy that they can hit five yards further. The most important thing is get your hands on the shaft properly, wrap them around a Winn grip, and you are gonna hit better shots.

John Daly - Grip Comfort and Feel

John Daly - Grip Comfort and Feel: Well, I’m not much into technology, I just know that Winn Grip has always been, since I’ve been with this company for the last four years, the best grip I’ve ever felt in my life. Polymortar rubber doesn’t mean anything to me, but the comfort and feel of the Winn Grip is far better than any other grip I’ve ever used in my life, so like I said, it’s just the greatest grip ever. John Daly – Hit Enough Club: The only tip I would know is playing these Wednesday pro-ams on tours, is the amateurs never hit enough club. I think, you know, if whenever you hit an 8-iron and you think it’s a hard 8, choke down on a seven, get some control, and you’d be amazed how much better your golf game is.

John Daly - Most Memorable Golf Moments

John Daly – Most Memorable Moments: My most memorable golf moments would be the PGA ’91 and the British Open. Two totally different scenarios, but it’s kind of where I was founded in ’91. People kind of knew who I was after that tournament. The British Open was probably the most special because, you know, it’s just winning there at the home of golf. And theoretically there’s probably three, winning at San Diego in ‘04 when I hadn’t won in 9 years was very very special. Made me feel like maybe I still can win out here.

Natalie Gulbis - My Golf History

Natalie Gulbis - My Golf History: I started playing golf when I was four years old, and I always had the dream of becoming a professional golfer. I played Junior golf, amateur golf, and I played in my first LPGA event when I was 14. I had qualified for the event. And after playing in that event, I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I went to college; I played for one year at the University of Arizona. I had a great year in college and then decided to turn professional.

Natalie Gulbis - Playing Between Distances

Natalie Gulbis - Playing Between Distances: Every single golfer out there, they always get in a situation during a round of golf where they’re in between distances. It’s not a perfect 8 iron. It’s too long for an 8 iron, it’s too short for the 7 iron, and what I’ve learned out on tour was, on every single time that I grip the club, I always grip it on the V. Now, if I hit my 7 iron 150 yards and I hit my 8 iron 140 yards, so I’m right in between at 145 yards, what I do is choke down on the grip about a half an inch. And what that does is it’s going to take five yards or basically the difference between the two irons. It’s going to cut it right in half just by choking down on the grip. You can take your same golf swing. It’s going to go right in between at that distance. I think it will really help so you’ll never be in between clubs again.

Natalie Gulbis - Using the V

Natalie Gulbis - Using the V: One of my favorite parts of the Excise 7 grip for a golfer, growing up you always look at the Vs. People are always talking about the Vs in grips. I think what Winn Grip has done better than anybody else is they’ve really shown that “V”. And for me, working on my grip all the time and trying to get consistency, I just try to line up the Vs. It’s helped me with my grip and with my setup and I hope it helps everybody out there, too.

Natalie Gulbis - Winn Grips Better than Rubber

Natalie Gulbis - Winn Grips Better than Rubber: What makes the Winn grip material better than rubber is really the performance of it - the way that it reacts when it gets wet, the feel, the way that the grip and the material absorbs the shock to save your body. There’s so many reasons that make the Winn grip superior to any other grip in golf.

Winn Grip - Grip Installation

Winn Grip - Grip Installation: Welcome to the Winn Grips installation video. Before we begin, we would like to emphasize that Winn Grips are not ordinary rubber grips, therefore requiring a different installation technique. Please do not remove your individually-wrapped Winn grips from their protective packaging until you are ready to install them on your clubs. You will need the following tools: a utility knife, preferably with a hooked blade; 2-inch double-sided grip tape; odorless mineral spirits to be used as solvent; and a vise complete with golf club adapter. First, secure the club in the vise a few inches from the end of the grip and align the club head. Cut off the old grip with the utility knife, using particular care not to cut into the surface of a composite shaft. Remove the remaining tape or adhesive by peeling or scraping the surface carefully, then wipe the shaft clean with the safe solvent. Apply the double-sided tape, leaving a quarter-inch overhang at the butt end of the shaft. Use the tape overhang to cover up the open end of the shaft. With your finger covering the hole in the butt cap, squirt a liberal amount of solvent inside the grip. Covering both ends of the grip, shake the grip to distribute the solvent. Then allow the excess solvent to drain from the butt cap of the grip onto the taped surface of the shaft. Now you are ready to install the grip. Tilting it slightly, gently slide the nipple over the butt end of the shaft. Once the nipple is over the end of the shaft, quickly bring the grip parallel to the floor and slide it on. Before the solvent dries, be sure to check the grip’s alignment. Allow the grip to dry for 30 minutes before use.
