Sigma Company Overview: Hi, I'm Tom Sobe. I'm the marketing manager for Sigma Corporation of America. Sigma is known as a lensemaker. We've been in the photo industry since 1961, when we developed our first product and the company was incorporated. Since then, we've become one of the largest lense makers in the world, making a tremendous array of interchangeable lenses for the 35mm and now digital SLR cameras. We also now make our own electronic flash and our own digital cameras, both SLR type and compact type. Sigma is a very innovative company and a very cutting-edge kind of company embracing, and often developing, new technology. We were among the first lensemakers to embrace image stabilization to improve image quality with different various lenses and cameras. We also were the first independent lensemaker to offer hypersonic motors to acquire faster autofocus function. Sigma is also the first, and the only camera company, to use phobian direct image sensors in our digital cameras. And we employ these sensors not only in our SLR cameras, but in our new compact digital cameras. These compact cameras are what we called the DP series of cameras, are the first to use the phobian sensors and they're also the first to use an APSC-sized image sensor, which is between 8 and 12 times as large as the typical image sensor found in a compact digital camera.
