ReelFit - Extra Features

Reel Fit – Extra Features: In addition to the phenomenal lacing system the BOA offers, this shoe is made up of the finest full grain leather, ECL leather; extreme comfort leather. It's completely waterproof, breathable, without the need for a membrane and it's also very soft and supple and forms to your foot. Inside the shoe we've got the GelCollar, this collar is going to mold to your ankle, especially in the Achilles area and works extremely well with the BOA Lacing System to really lock your foot into the shoe. On the outsole, you see a Tri-Density TPU Outsole, with a four foot flex groove, OptiFlex zone, again this is a TPU material as well but it's a softer durometer which adds to the flexibility of the shoe. Very, very stable product again players with higher swing speeds that really go after the ball are going to enjoy using the Reel Fit product as it's going to keep them grounded.

ReelFit - Features

Reel Fit – Features: Hi, I'm Mike Foley, Director of Footwear Marketing for Foot Joy. I've been here at Foot Joy for about eight years. I started on the glove team. I spent the last six years working with the product development team, developing our extensive shoe line. Reel Fit, a tremendous shoe from Foot Joy entering its third year. I'm sure many of you have seen the features and benefits of this shoe before and you've seen it on Tour with some of the players such as Steve Stricker, Scott Verplank, Arron Oberholser, Ben Curtis and dozens of other players out on Tour wearing this product. For those of you who haven't seen it or heard about it, I'm going to give you a quick demonstration of what this shoe has to offer. Basically in the place of a traditional lace system, we have the BOA Lacing System from BOA Technologies. We have a single lace that runs through the lace guides. This lace is made up of seven bundles of seven strands of aircraft grade steel under a plastic polymer. It is incredibly, incredibly strong and durable. This lace runs through the lace guides and down in back on both sides of the shoe to the reel in the back. How to operate, is you pull the dial out, lift up the tongue, insert you're foot, then push the dial back in, make sure the tongue is set on top, and then turn it clockwise. What this does is it brings the tongue down, brings your foot back into the back of the shoe providing a great custom fit.

ReelFit - Lacing Benefits

Reel Fit – Lacing Benefits: One of the added benefits to the BOA Lacing System is it decreases the hot spots on top of the foot. In traditional laces, a lot of times you'll pull the lace tight and it will tighten on top of your foot, creating a hot spot here, where it might be lose here. With the BOA Lacing System, it's an even displacement of the pressure on top of your foot which eliminates that hot spot. In addition, once this is locked down and you've achieved your optimum fit, you don't have to touch it the rest of the round. Often times with traditionally laced shoes, you're going to have to tighten the shoe at the turn or have you, once this is locked down to the optimal fit, you can let it go for all 18 holes.

ReelFit - Midsole and Outsole

Reel Fit – Midsole and Outsole: The midsole, outsole component of the shoe. Midsole component is an EVA, that's ethyl vinyl acetate, very soft, very comfortable under foot cushioning. The outsole is comprised of the Tri-Density TPU material, so it's going to be firmer in some areas, the high abrasion areas of the outsole and then a softer durometer in what we're calling the OptiFlex zone. OptiFlex zone provides the wearer with maximum flexibility from tee to green as well through the golf swing. In addition we have Pulsar Cleats from Softspikes to give you that added level of traction throughout the golf swing. In addition on the outsole, we've got TPU traction nubs that go along side the Pulsar Cleats for maximum traction throughout the golf swing.

ReelFit - Shoe Care

ReelFit - Shoe Care: Something important to note is shoe care for your golf shoes. A lot of people spend a lot of money on golf shoes and it's important to take care of them properly. After every round, the best thing to do is take a little wet towel and non abrasive soap and just go over the shoe, taking care of all the grass that might be stuck within the whelp. Take that all off the shoe, dry it down. Very important is to use Cedar Shoe Trees. Cedar Shoe Trees will be fit right inside the shoe. You can get different sizes to fit your size shoe. It's going to retain the form of the shoe which is very important so the leather is not going to stretch, it's not going to condense, and it will retain the form. Plus the Cedar is going to take a lot of the moisture out of the shoe so it's going to prolong the life of your golf shoe. In addition, check out the outsole, you always want to clean it off as best as you can. Make sure the cleats are tightened. In the event that a leg has sheared, it's important to replace that cleat. Any of your local pro shops will have replacement cleats. To maximize the performance of your shoe it is best to keep all your cleats intact and to keep the shoe as clean and as dry as possible. One other note, it's best not to store your shoes in the trunk of your car. A lot of people do, but those trunks can get very hot over time, what that is going to do is its going to heat up the leather, it's going to make the leather weaker and often times the circumstances will make the leather on the forefoot crack and peel because of those elevated heat conditions inside of your trunk.

ReelFit - Shoe Sizing Tips

ReelFit - Shoe Sizing Tips: Something that is also important to remember is over 80% of people wear the wrong size shoe, whether that's a width or a length. It's important to get the properly sized shoe and to do that it's great to try the shoe on and make sure it fits properly. You want to make sure in the forefoot, if the shoe fits properly; there is not going to be any overhang or stretching in the forefoot area. If it's too narrow, you'll be able to grip some excess leather. A properly fitting shoe fits the shoe perfectly. You want about the width of your thumbnail from the end of your toe to the end of the shoe. That's how much space you want because over the course of the day when you're walking 18 holes especially in warm weather, you're feet are going to swell a little bit so you want to make sure you incorporate enough space for that. You don't want your toe going right to the edge of the shoe.
