Pearl Reference Series: Hi this is Gene Okamoto, product manager with Pearl. Let me introduce you to the Reference series. On the reference series, every drum is an instrument unto itself. For example, the small tom toms have birch added to the inner plastic, gives it more brightness, for more cut. The 12 inch tom tom is the only drum that has 100 percent maple, and as the drums get bigger from there we add more and more African mahogany. African mahogany gives you a lot of warm tones, and lows, especially on the bass drums, it’s awesome. We also vary the bearing edges. The snare drum is a sharp 45 for crack, the in between tom sizes have a rounded 45 for a medium attack, and then the bass drums and floor toms have a fully rounded bearing edge to take away the overtones and give you a full rich bottom sound. Also, the thicknesses vary depending on the size to give you optimum sound. Reference series, each drum is an instrument unto itself to create an incredibly sounding kit. It’s like a symphony.
