Pearl Demon Drive Pedal
Pearl Demon Drive Pedal: OK, hi party people, my name is Gene Okamoto from Pearl, I’m the product manager. Let me introduce you to the new Demon Drive pedal. The Demon Drive is the fastest, smoothest, most versatile pedal ever in Pearls history. There are three elements that make it fast and smooth. First of all are the bearings. The two main bearings that are in here on the drive axle, they are Ninja bearings that you will find on precision skateboards. Let me get this one going first, this is a Ninja bearing. This is the competitors bearing, and you can see I gave this one a head start, and even though I started this one later, this one’s still spinning. OK, now when you have a bearing that smooth, that pedal is going to be wickedly fast. We have another aspect of this pedal that makes it fast and smooth, and that’s our direct link. This is our direct link. Direct link is a direct drive system. That means that when you push down on this pedal it’s a one to one relationship between the footboard and the beater. So, what you think is what you will play, one to one is a mind link. We’ve also added something, speaking of bearings, we also have a spherical bearing on the direct link, and what this is, is a self aligning feature that always keeps the direct link perfectly in alignment. So, there’s never any kind of side to side drag that would make the pedal slower. Third we have our z link, direct drive link, that’s on our double pedal. Uses an automotive style universal joint, so they have absolutely no play. That means the left pedal on your double pedal plays just like the main pedal on your double pedal. Let me talk about the versatility. There are three main features that give it a lot of versatility. That means that you can set it up to exactly the way that you play. The first thing is our dual deck footboard. This is the world’s first convertible short board long board foot pedal. When you buy it from the factory it comes in a short board arrangement, just like you see here, like most pedals. But by just moving the parts around like this, it becomes a long board. You wanna see it again. That’s the short board, right here, I’m gonna convert it to a long board. Ta-da. Same pedal does both features, and then let me go back to the direct link. The direct link has two positions. It has a rear position for a heavier feel, and it has a forward position for a lighter feel. So now you have the choice between the lighter feel, or the heavier feel. And then the last thing is our beater stroke adjustment. The beater stroke adjustment has two positions. There’s no other pedal in the world that has this. You can move it to the rear position, or you can move it to the front position. When it’s in the front position, the beater is closer to the head. This is like when you’re playing golf, it’s like a putt. You’re making a short stroke, you have a lot of finesse. You can also move it to a back position, it’s like making a longer stroke, like in golf you’re making a drive. So that’s a power position. So you have a lighter position for finesse, a backer position for power, so that’s two more positions. Now that you’ve seen that it’s got two positions on the beater stroke adjustment, two positions on the direct link, and two positions on the footboard, that gives you eight possible positions. We have all eight possible positions on our demonstration here. In addition we also have some features that are highly functional, and very practical. For example, we have our click lock, which is a locking system that keeps your spring tension from loosening up. We have index marks for the spring tension, we have index marks for the footboard angle adjustment, we have index marks for the beater stroke adjustment. Speaking of beaters, the beater that comes on this pedal is a felt beater, but you can also get a wood beater. Both of these beaters feature an elastomer core, patent pending. What it does, it absorbs vibrations, kind of like on golf clubs, it takes the sting out of the strokes. We have our traction plate. This traction plate can be adjusted with a screw on the bottom. So you can turn it around, and move the dots any which way you want to get control of the grip slip. You can also replace the aluminum dots, or rubber dots if you want more grippy surface. And finally, the toe clamp. The toe clamp features spherical grippers. So, a lot of drummers like to play with the bass drum, with the nose of the bass drum facing up. Well, with these spherical grippers, they’re self aligning, so the nose of the bass drum can be facing up, and the rest of the footboard will be flat on the ground. OK, so you have this pedal, is wickedly fast, but it will give you, with all these adjustments, heavenly feel. This is the Demon Drive.
