Panasonic DMC G1 Camera - About

Panasonic DMC GI Camera – About: Hi, I'm Matt Frasier Field Training Manager for Panasonic. What we are going to be talking about today is the DMC GI, which is the world's first micro 4/3rds system digital interchangeable lense camera. I want to first discuss what the goal of this product is. The goal of the product was to reduce size of your interchangeable lense products, so as you'll notice here, these two lenses have very similar focal lengths, but there is a huge difference in size. We wanted to provide a camera that anybody could carry around and didn't feel like it was a burden to have to bring with them. How we made this compact lense possible is by removing from inside the camera body, the mirror function as well as the pentaprism, that's here and the face detection auto focus that's ordinarily in these cameras at the bottom. By doing that, we have reduced the bodies depth by anywhere from 40-60% depending on who our competitor is. Also, by bringing this part of the lense closer to the sensor, we are able to reduce the size of the lense dramatically. This is what gives this body such a compact size. One of the challenges with doing this design is that you no longer have a through the lense viewfinder or an SLR style camera, so we had to provide you with the finest electronic viewfinder known to mankind. This is what you call a Liquid Crystal On Cillian Projection EVF. It uses the exact same technology that used in twenty thousand dollar front projection systems that are used in professional cinemas. It provides you with a seamless electronic viewfinder that has stunning clarity. You've never seen anything that looks this good. In addition because of the micro 4/3rd systems inherent design, the feedback from the lense to the viewfinder is done at 60 frames a second so when you pan your shots, it doesn't have a choppy, juttery look to it. It is smooth and seamless. An added advantage of this design is that this camera is in what is called full live view. So, if you're a first time interchangeable lense customer, transitioning from a point and shoot camera to this model, you're going to find that it is as easy to use as your point and shoot camera. This is the easiest interchangeable lense camera on the market today. It is the only interchangeable lense camera that offers full time face detection, so you always have face detection available. It's also the only interchangeable lense camera on the market that offers full time intelligent auto functions, so with this camera if you point it at a subject it will automatically select portrait mode for you. If you point it at a landscape, it will automatically select landscape for you. If you're going to be pointing it at a subject to shoot some shots for eBay, it will automatically select a sue do-macro function to make sure that everything is crystal clear and in perfect focus. The G1 incorporates a 12 megapixel 4/3rd sensor. The lense that ships with it, you'll see it says 14-45mm. For you film people out there, for 35mm equivalent, it's a 28-90mm zoom lense that is optically image stabilized because it's a Panasonic, we're always optically image stabilized. On top of that, a couple of additional interesting features, this has our intelligent auto tracking functions. Again the only interchangeable lense camera that can do this full time. You simply point this at your subject and you can lock in on them so that wherever they move, they're in perfect focus and perfect exposure. It helps to speed the camera up a little bit more so you can get those shots super fast. Finally because it's so compact we certainly think you're going to want to express yourself a little bit with it. It's available in three fashion colors, boring black, beautiful red or beautiful blue.
