About Northwave Drake King Binding: Drake bindings. The bottom of the road as far as technology goes for us, which actually used to be our high-end binding about four years ago, would be the King binding. The King binding starts out with a one-piece base plate. It also comes with an aluminum heel cup, which is adjustable with two screws on each side. You’re getting four position ratchets. You’re going to get four clicks out of each ratchet, both on the toe and the heel. With the ratchets, we have housings for the latter straps, quick adjust on your heel, non-adjustable on the toe strap. But it is a two-position toe, so on the bottom you can position it either further forward or slide it further back, based on the boot that’s going into the binding system. One-piece highback, so you’re going to get definitely a stiffer highback, more of an all-mountain style highback, very responsive when you lean against it. Then a highback adjuster for forward lean, easy adjust. Flip it up, adjust your forward lean, flip it back down to lock it in. That’s the King in two colors: black and white.
