About Banshee Pro Boot
About Banshee Pro Boot: My name is Ryan Green; I’m the US product manager for Dynastar & Langee1 in the US. Today we are gonna talk about a new boot for 08-09, it’s called the Banshee Pro. This is a Boot that’s been specifically made for all mountain skiing, specifically in the high performance ranks of the sport.
Banshee Pro Boot - Construction
Banshee Pro Boot – Construction: So what we’ve done is we’ve taken a shell that’s been proven on the world cup for the last couple of years, the code name is RL11, it’s the same boot used by Herman Myer, Racy Stigler, Julia Mancuso, to race in the Olympics in the world cup. We’ve changed that shell towards adapted to all mountain skiing. We have two shells that we use in the racing world; we have the RL12 and the RL11, there’s the difference in the way that the boots function. Basically what happens is, its how much flex is used in the boots before it engages and takes skier’s pressure. In the RL11 or what we use is the Banshee shell, this is the classic Lange, it has a very soft material that sits on the lower shin, it creates the wrap which gives you a nice snug fit in the steering area of the boot. It has a long range of engagement and flex so the skier has a lot of control to how much energy they can put into the ski. In the sole, it’s an arch sole; it’s a two piece sole. The reason for that is that it allows the sole to have a little bit of torsion play in there, so the boot is not that hard as it could be in certain situation.
Banshee Pro Boot - Features
Banshee Pro Boot – Features: We really alter some of the features that are appropriate for all mountains skiing, starting with an elastic power strap on top that gives the skier the ability to really syncs down the power strap so they get a nice tight grip on the shin. But it also has some shock absorption in it. So if they’ve taken a hard hit from a landing or they are skiing in some varied snow conditions this elastic power strap will absorb some of the shock.
Banshee Pro Boot - Hinges and Buckles
Banshee Pro Boot - Hinges and Buckles: Four buckle; metal buckles, all four of them, all four also micro drive. The catches are teen aided in so they are very easy to move or alter as needed. You can also move your catches on the upper calf, you can move them out or in so you can tighten or loosen as appropriate. So you could really customize this boot. Another nice feature about Lange & it’s another classic Lange, is the hinge point is matches up with your ankle bone. So it matches up with the body shape and how the body functions, so it’s a very natural feeling flex.
Banshee Pro Boot - Liner
Banshee Pro Boot – Liner: The liner has also been tweaked for free skiing. We added gel tongue, this is a shock absorbing system, but also it’s a little bit tacky, so it helps grip the shin, create a nice purchase on the shin so you don’t get any abrasions on the shin. There’s optional lace features, two laces that will sit on the front of the shin, there’s a removable spoiler so you can change your forward Lange or either take up some space or remove some space around the calf. Most importantly we’ve changed the material that sits on the toe-box; this is now a shock absorbing material in the toe box. We used to have knee-frame, knee-frame have been typically used in the ski boot liners to allow the toes to move so that they’re not as constricted in the liner. The trouble we found with knee- frame in a free ride boot is when you are coming off a jumper, you are skiing and you have a lot of for & after movement in your stance, it can cause the toe to go forward. With knee- frame, your foot can actually push through knee frame but with this material, its very hard to distort. It still allows the freedom but it helps to keep the toes intact so you don’t hit the front of the shin, and it also has the shock absorbing. Lastly we also put a non slip surface on the bottom of the liner so when it sits inside the boot board, there’s no play of the liner moving inside the shell at all. It’s very solid system. So those are the number of features that are used in the free ride boot, particularly for the Banshee Pro and it’s absolutely top boot for high performance all mountain skiing.
Banshee Pro Boot - Shell Success
Banshee Pro Boot - Shell Success: Typically we’ll use this shell in the speed events, downhill, Super G and so on. As this boot has a great success in the world cup in the last few years, we’ve decided to apply the same shell design for all mountain skiing because it has the long range of engagement, the arch sole and the wrap on the forefoot, it’s a great skiing boot for some of the best skiers out there who are skiing in the all mountain situation.
Banshee Pro Boot - Soles
Banshee Pro Boot – Soles: We also add Vibram soles on the bottom of the Banshee pro, reason for that is if you are out hiking, walking around whether you are in the parking lot, dancing in the bar or hiking in to go get some freshets, this stuff as you know with vibram is very tacky and durable. So we’ve added this to the soles so it’s a much more comfortable boot to walk around in.
