Kuro - About

Kuro – About: The Kuro is Volkl’s widest ski. It’s a 132-millimeter waist. It’s an incredible ski for skiing in deep snow, and it’s one that a lot of our pro riders ride, but it’s actually really easy for even a regular skier to ride. That 132-millimeter waist means you float incredibly well in deep powder.

Kuro - Elongated Low Tip Profile

Kuro - Elongated Low Tip Profile: The other thing that you would notice about the Kuro is what we call an elongated low tip profile. That elongated low profile is Volkl’s rocker design. I’m sure you’ve heard about rocker skis out there. The Volkl design actually works better in all different conditions. The way it does that is the rocker starts directly in front of the toe of your boot and goes very gradually toward the front. So you can see how low profile the tip is, but it actually has the same amount of kick as a regular ski. It’s just all happens from the toe of the binding going out to the edge, and the same thing in the back of the ski.

Kuro - Graphic

Kuro – Graphic: The other interesting thing about the Kuro is the graphic. You can see this very nice wood grain look, and it has an Asian theme to it. So along with the wood grain, you’ll see that name “Kuro” is actually a Japanese word for knife. So you can really knife through the deep powder with the Kuro.

Kuro - Rocker Design

Kuro - Rocker Design: What does a rocker design do for you? It makes the skis really easy to maneuver in deeper snow. If you think about a surfboard going through the water, it’s rockered up at the nose and at the tail. The same thing on these wide skis. When you’re in that really deep snow, it’s almost like you’re surfing on top of it. By having the rocker, it gives you incredible maneuverability in that deep snow. It’s very easy to pivot the skis. The interesting thing about the elongated low profile from Volkl is that when you come out of the powder and you’re skiing on the groomed snow to try to get back to the lift, the same thing that allows that rocker ski to maneuver well in the deep snow, when you tip it on edge, our shape actually contacts the snow all the way down its whole length. So you’re going to get better control in the groomed snow while you still have that better float in the deep snow. So the Kuro looks like a very stylish ski, but it’s a very technical, very advanced ski for skiing both powder and on the groomed snow when you’re trying to access different terrain.

Kuro - Sidecut

Kuro – Sidecut: The sidecut of the Kuro is much wider at the tip than it is in the tail. Some people call that a pintail design. Our ski actually doesn’t have a pintail. It’s gets a little bit wider at the tail than it is at the waist, but the extremely wide tips rides nice and high on the deep snow. In the middle of the ski, you have a lot of width there, also, to give you float. The back of the ski being narrow allows that tail to ride lower in the deep snow. So you always have the control of having your tip out of the snow and your tail down in the snow. So it’s a very natural ride when you’re riding the Kuro.

Kuro - Freeskiing Series

Kuro - Freeskiing Series: This is Volkl’s Women’s Freeskiing collection, and there are four models dedicated to different types of freeskiing for women. All of our women’s freeskiing skis feature a lighter weight softer wood core. So women tend to carry less weight on their bodies, and consequently, our freeskiing skis are a lighter weight for them to be easy to handle for women of all abilities.
