Katana - About

Katana - About: The Directional Free Ride Skis from Volkl are designed for skiing forward in deeper snow. This is the second year for the Katana. The Katana is a ski that has a very, very slight rocker to it so the tip has a little bit of reverse camber. One of the interesting things you’ll notice on the Katana is that it has two sheets of metal. And in the graphic you can see that top piece of metal through the top sheet. So that’s an interesting thing on the graphic. The shape of the Katana, it’s 111 underneath the foot. That’s probably the most important dimension for powder skiing is the width underneath the foot. So it’s a great ski for skiing deeper snow, but because it has that construction, it’s actually built like a GS Racing ski. So when you’re skiing on the groomed snow, if you’re trying to access different parts of the mountain, you’ll actually have a very stable, very smooth ride on the Katana. Unlike a lot of the other skis that have a 111 millimeter waist, you have very nice edge grip and stability on the Katana thanks to the full race ski-like construction.
