Grizzly - About

Grizzly - About: So a brand new ski for this season is called the Volkl Grizzly. And the Grizzly is really the flagship in our all-condition series. What is the Grizzly? It’s a really wide midfat and we’re able to allow you to ski all conditions on this really wide ski by introducing a new ski binding system called Motion IPT Wide Ride.

Grizzly - Extended Double Grip

Grizzly - Extended Double Grip: The Grizzly also features our Extended Double Grip construction. And what that is, is two channels that go on the outside of the ski and we stack a tremendous amount of material directly over the edge. And that gives you better edge grip. In the middle of the ski, the channel is actually dug out and what that does is allow the ski to flex really easily. So you have a combination of an incredibly smooth flex that gives you very easy control and easy handling. But also very good edge grip because of all that material stacked over the edge.

Grizzly - Motion IPT Wider Ride

Grizzly - Motion IPT Wider Ride: With Wide Ride technology, we've made the interface between the binding and the ski 30 percent wider. What does that do? It gives you much more power transmission. Volkl and Marker are the first company to actually combine and make a system for the wider skis. Lots of people have made wider brakes for the wider skis, but we're the first one to make a system that really allows you to ski better on a wider ski. When you're using a ski that's 89 millimeters in the waist like a Grizzly, you have a lot of ski underneath your foot. But by having the binding connection be wider, you actually have the feel of a narrower ski, while you still have the flow of a wider ski. Well, the Grizzly has a 89 millimeter waist as I said, so this has a tremendous amount of flow when you're in the softer snow. But, because of the Motion IPT Wide Ride, and the better power transmission that you get with that, we can actually ski it on the groomed snow, and it almost feels as responsive as a slalom ski.

Grizzly - Power Switch

Grizzly - Power Switch: One of the key technologies in the Grizzly is called our Power Switch technology. And Power Switch is the world’s first on board ski power adjustment. How you adjust the power is this little dial on the back and there’s three settings on the dial: cruise, dynamic, and power. So as you move the setting from cruise up to power, you actually create more energy in the ski so if you want to ski really hard you can set it on the power setting and it’ll give you more back as you put more input into it. When you put it on the dynamic setting, you have a setting in the middle. So if you want to ski a little harder you can actually get more energy out of the ski, but it’s not quite as strong of a ride. If you put it back on the cruise position, at the end of the day if you’re just tired and you want to just take it easy, you can put it on that setting and have a much easier ride quality in your ski. With the Power Switch technology, you’re getting three different ride qualities with the same ski.

Grizzly - Power Switch - How it works

Grizzly - Power Switch - How it works: How does the Power Switch technology change the ride quality of the ski? How it does it, is this switch is actually connected to two carbon fiber rods that go from the back of the ski, through these channels, all the way to the front. You can actually see the springs that those rods are connected to in the front of the ski. When you turn the dial it compresses the springs at the front of the ski and actually makes the ski stiffer. Gives it a more energized feel. It still flexes just as easily, but then as the ski compresses you get more rebound out of the Grizzly when you turn up that power switch. When you move the power switch to the dynamic position, you compress the springs at the front of the ski via the rods that go through these channels. And when you do that you make the ski a little more energetic. If you turn it all the way up to the power position, you compress the springs all the way, and you have the most rebound that you could possibly have with the Grizzly.

Grizzly - Who the ski is for

Grizzly - Who the ski is for: The Grizzly is the flagship of the neon limited series, but it’s not just for expert skiers. Anyone from an advanced skier through an expert can actually ski on the Grizzly. Because of the way the Power Switch works you can really relax the ride of this ski and then as you get better, or the conditions change, you can make it a stiffer ski for those harder days. The Grizzly has a really wide platform so that means it’s really easy to stand on and it’s just a very easy ski to handle given all the technology that it has.

Volkl Unlimited Ski Series

Grizzly - Unlimited Series Intro: One of the first things to think about if you want to buy a pair of skis is what conditions you want to use them in, what snow conditions. The Unlimited series from Volkl is our most popular series; they're what we call our all-condition skis. Some people call them mid-fats, and mid-fats are an all-condition ski. What they really do is allow you to ski anything from deep, or powder snow, all the way down to groomed snow. It gives you probably the widest range of versatility within out whole line as far as what different conditions you want to ski in with your new skis.
