Electro-Voice Tour X Loudspeaker Series: Hi, my name is Josh Bartunik, and I am a product manager for Electro-Voice, and the new award winning speaker line Tour X, winner of the Music and Sound Retailer Best Speaker of the Year 2008. We’re very proud of that. Tour X is really a culmination of a lot of engineering efforts from Electro-Voice that really come from our experience in tour sound, concert sound, and huge event production. One of the things that you’ll notice when you talk about Tour X at first is this backbone grill design. The backbone grill design has really two reasons for existing. One is to be aesthetic, to differentiate it from competitive products, but more importantly, what it really does is it adds an incredible amount of strength to the grill. So there’s a functional perspective to this grill design that makes it really unique and functional all at the same time. The second thing we can talk about is the handles, and when you say handles aren’t that big of a deal, really handles are a big deal because this is how you interface with the box when you’re moving it. So instead of going to a supplier and choosing and picking a handle that they built, we actually built our own. We designed it from the ground up, we mold it ourselves, we build it ourselves. It’s designed to be ergonomically comfortable so that when you move the speaker, it’s easier on you. Another aspect of the speaker system you can see is the angle of input panel. The angle of input panel actually gives you the opportunity to move this speaker closer to a boundary. So if you need it closer to a wall or closer to a wall ceiling joint, you can actually do that with this angle input panel. We made it nice and big so when you have two connectors built in, you can actually get to them and manipulate them whenever you need to. Now what you don’t see, which is probably the biggest news on this line, is the brand new woofer line. SMX woofers are a breakthrough woofer design for Electro-Voice. EV engineers have simply shattered the traditional design limitations of woofer, and they achieved linearity in all three domains: the electric, the magnetic, and the mechanical. What that means is that there is absolutely no distortion in these woofers so that the entire system is very well behaved, low distortion, high efficiency. That means less amplifier power to get it up to the same level as a lot of competitive speakers.
