Giant Compact Road Design - About

Giant Compact Road Design: Hi. I’m Andrew Juskyas, Global Product Marketing Manager, here at Giant Bicycle. I’m here today to explain to you a little bit about Compact Road Design. Compact Road Design was first developed by Giant over ten years ago and was introduced at the Pro Peloton level on team Once. When the team first showed up to the race, the UCI in fact tried to ban the team and the design from the race because the design was in fact, so radical. Let’s take a little look at exactly what Compact Road is and what are the benefits of it. Compact Road Designs feature a shorter seat tube, a sloping top tube, and usually a seat post that is a little bit longer than tradition. Well, what does that mean? It means you get a tighter front triangle overall, that is both stiffer and lighter weight than a conventional open ended front triangle. Rider benefits with a stiffer front end, stiffer steering and stiffer bottom bracket area, all without a weight penalty. Compact Road Design is now the absolute standard by which Giant’s road bicycles are built. But even more interesting, it’s now the standard by almost every other manufacturer builds their road bicycles. It’s the greatest compliment of all, and one of the reasons we’re most proud of Compact Road Design.
